Signs Your Gutters Need Attention

  • Water pouring over the gutter edge during rain
  • Visible cracks, splits or sagging sections
  • Damp patches on internal walls near the roofline
  • Green algae or moss growing on exterior walls
  • Pooling water around your foundations
  • Gutters that haven't been cleared in over a year

uPVC, Aluminium or Cast Iron?

We help you choose the right material for your property. uPVC is the most popular choice — lightweight, affordable and virtually maintenance-free. Aluminium offers a premium finish and excellent durability. Cast iron-effect profiles are ideal for period and heritage properties where appearance matters.

We'll recommend the best option for your property and budget when we come to assess the job.

How Much Does Guttering Replacement Cost?

Full uPVC guttering replacement on a typical Warwickshire semi generally costs between £450 and £900, covering new gutters, brackets, downpipes and outlets front and rear. A detached property with longer runs and additional downpipes sits higher. Aluminium and cast-iron-effect systems cost roughly double uPVC but last considerably longer and suit period properties far better.

Repairs are much cheaper — refitting a sagging section, replacing a cracked union or clearing a blocked downpipe is usually well under £200. Our guttering cost guide breaks this down further by job type.

How Often Should Gutters Be Cleared?

Twice a year is the sensible baseline: once in late autumn after leaf fall, and once in spring. If your property sits under mature trees — common across rural Warwickshire and the older suburbs of Leamington and Warwick — you may need three or four clears a year to stay ahead of it.

Signs you are overdue include water spilling over the front edge during rain, plants growing out of the gutter, and staining running down the wall beneath a joint. Moss washed down off the roof is the usual culprit in this county, and it compacts into a dense mat that water cannot pass through.

What Happens When Guttering Fails

Failed guttering does its damage slowly and out of sight. Water running down a wall saturates the brickwork, and on a north-facing or exposed elevation that wall may never fully dry between rainfalls. Over a winter or two you get penetrating damp inside, blown render outside, and frost damage where saturated brick freezes.

Persistent overflow at ground level also saturates soil against the foundations and washes out pointing at the base of the wall. It is one of the cheapest problems to fix and one of the most expensive to ignore — and it frequently appears on homebuyer surveys, so it is worth sorting before you market a property.

Seamless and Continuous Guttering

Most failures in a gutter run happen at the joints, where seals perish and unions crack. Removing the joints removes the failure point, which is why we recommend continuous aluminium guttering on longer runs and on properties where future access is awkward.

Aluminium is rolled to the exact length of your elevation, so a thirty-foot run has no joints at all. It will not sag, does not go brittle under UV the way uPVC does, and comes in a heritage cast-iron profile that suits Victorian and Edwardian properties without the weight or the repainting.
